For a different purpose, a friend who works for Bird talked to the engineering
guys in the loads/attenuators department on my behalf. For the freestanding 1
or 2.5kW units, they believe that power rating for pulses of fractions of a
second is limited by voltage breakdown in the connector. With plenty of air
cooling, average power can be 4 x the basic cw rating, and pep 10 x cw
rating.
