There's one "tube" guitar amp that takes this a step further: it contains a 12AX7 that lights up but is connected to - nothing!Ridiculous, its quite obvious that they put in a single 12AX7 stage feeding a SS amp and call it a tube unit. Nothing but a novelty really. (The manufacturer had better remain anonymous.... but think "automobile bodywork" and see what comes to mind.)
