The question was whether a midpoint resistor was needed when tuning a PI-L
network - surely it isn't whatever the amplifier configuration.

There are numerous ways to tune a Pi-L or a Pi, tank to achieve a match, but the resultant Q could be far off of the design goal. The foundation of tuning any tank is to first set C-Tune to establish the design Q at the frequency of tuneup. Eimac recommends a Q of 10 - 15.

Hi All

For the Pi or PiL adjustaiment whit the swr analyzer ,it's necessary
to
place a non-inductive resistor egual to the plate impedance, from the
anode
tube and the chassis ground. I would like to know if in the PiL case
,for
the best result, it's necessary to place also the non-inductive
resistor
egual to RM value ,for example 300 ohm, from the load variable
capacitor to
the chassis ground.

No. The resistor from the anode to ground is the only one you need.
