This change to higher voltage by the automobile manufactures has been lurking 
about in the background for a couple of years now.  We should see the first of 
it (as stated by Stan in der Bimmers) in `07 or `08 I have been told.  Other 
soon to follow if not in the same model years.

Voltages will/should be 36 v run, (and as he has stated) 42 v when charging.  
This change overdue to way too many electric items in our modern cars. 

Fwiw, current (?) alternators on most cars can put out as much as 180-200 amps 
to charge the batt and furnish the juice for whatever else we humans see fit to 
add on. Or demand from the factories.

  BMW is reportedly going to 42Volts. This makes much sense for starting 
  diesel engines and QRO mobiles.
