About those Hall effect transistors.
Shame on me.......The Allegro data book AMS-500 ( 1991 ) Was sitting on
the shelf about three yards behind my back.... page 4-1 to 4-101 with
all one might need. I used that data book for all kind of integrated
circuits. I used even thousands of UGS3055U, never paid attention to
the other possibilities of the insect. ( Found about 50 Hall insects in
my old railway dedicated maintenance case )
I will have a close look at the stuff, might even be possible to make
his own AC power meter......with some types.
Someone knows about a good bag to hide my head in?
Never to old to learn ........

Thanks for the info Francis. I was'nt aware of the refined possibilities
of the Hall effect. I used thousands and thousands Hall effect
transistors in a former life (1980) but only as a magnetic field sensor.

I just wonder why power Amp. producers don?t use them until today? Is it
only the $ bill attached, or any other weakness ?
What say?

Hall effect is an active current transformer device so it would be used
to
measure current.
I think digi key sells them. It converts current to volts. The device
fits
over an insulated wire for high voltage isolation. It will measure DC
current unlike a current transformer that only measures AC current. A
simple
panel mounted DVM could be scaled to measure current and be isolated
from
high voltage. gfz

Hall effect!!.... would you make clear how you would proceed with a hall
effect Francis.

how about a hall effect sensor???

Hi All,
I'm new on this list...

I'm planning to build a 2m amp with a 4CX1500B tetrode.
I want it a bit state of the art and replace the meters with LED bars.

My design will be a cathode driven, DC grounded amplifier and i want to
monitor at least screen, grid and anode current and anode voltage.

The LM3914 input seems to be always referenced to ground. No problem to
measure the screen current for which a pole of the supply is grounded.

But a bit more difficult to measure the other currents and voltages for
which the reference et the cathode level.

Has anyone an idea how to do that, on a simple way ?
