My friend W6FR did a Google search for 6A6 and diode which turned up sources
for the 6A6. It is 600v 6A rating and cost is very low. The info from K5CX
showed it mounted on 2 standoffs with L brackets made of flashing copper on
each end. 73, Dan, N5AR

Jim: About 10-12 years ago I had frequent contacts with K5CX now (SK) in
Oklahoma, an excellent high speed CW operator. He had built a QSK system for
a 3-1000Z linear using a power rectifier as a PIN diode switch. I wanted to
know more about it so he sent me several pages of information including a
schematic. The diode used for the power switching was a 6A6. I believe that
I found it to be a Motorola device but my memory is rather hazy on that.
Can anyone help identify the 6A6 and maybe a modern equivalent? I believe
there was an article in Ham Radio about using a small power rectifier as a
PIN replacement in a VHF rig. Again, my memory is hazy on that. 73, Dan,

I have it in mind to build a 400-W MOSFET amp for 80-40 and would be
interested in experimenting with PIN-diode T/R switching. I'm aware of the
problems with high VSWR but I can deal with them. But I can't find anything
in my 03 Handbook on the subject. I understand the 'how,' but would like to
know what available devices to use, and where to get small quantities.
Thanks.
