Ahh - But does it need to monitor the dip in gate current to deserve the 
name? I have one that uses dual gate MOSFETs, so there's no gate 
current. The detector monitors the supply current to the oscillator. I 
suspect that looking for a dip in grid current makes for a much more 
sensitive instrument - probably more so than watching gate current in a 
jfet.
