Peter,
I'm planning to built a portable light weiht 4CX1000A AMP, I need the minture
HV caps.
I found simlar design in a very old Chinese solid transmitter, it design in
end of 1960s.
I think there is another problem when it was used for a long time the film
will damage
 due to abrasion.

When jackson Bros were in business, they did do some specials which had the
teflon film in them. It didn't increse the voltage rating by a lot, but it did
increase the capacity - bath max and min. After all, it's only the same old
solid dielectric variable that has been around since the early 1920's.
