In the mid 80's the use of the 3CPX1500A7 in linear amplifier service was 
investigated
in connection of "re-tubing" a commercial MF/HF amplifier.

The outcome was that it would have permitted higher peak power and power gain
due to a about 30% higher DC plate voltage rating, and the sturdier cathode 
with more peak emission, as compared to the 8877.

However, due to the higher tube cost this route was abandoned in favor of 
paralleling two "cheaper" tubes and lowering the plate voltage.

This was in the "pre Russian tube" era, otherwise one or more GS35's or GU84's 
probably
would have been used.
