When you look at the prices of the other amps, 1.5Kfx = $3,300, 2.5 Kfx =
$5,600 plus auto tuner = $1,150
you get $4450 for about 1100 PEP or $6750 for the legal limit. The SPE ran
about the same with the internal tuner, but they are now available only from
the manufacturer rather than Array solutions and the manufacturer takes care
of warranty work.

Although twice the price of the 2.5Kfx setup IF they live up to the
advertizing the price is still in the ball park. Solid stte at this
powerlevel is expensive and so it all the protection that has to be built
in. Excess capacity for protection is even more expensive. Another thing to
take into consideration is the auto tuners tend be be relatively narrow
range such as matching 3:1 and under. Those amps need to work into an SWR of
under 1.3:1 or they'll be kicking out due to high reflected power so keeping
the SWR low is essential (and using the ALC) .

I have eperience only with the 1.5Kfx (without the auto tuner which comes
later) and like it very much. It runs almost as much power out as my old
Henry 2K4 and does it from 160 through 6-meters. I'm driving it with a
little Icom IC-7000 mobile rig which is connected to my computer using Ham
Radio Deluxe as a control program. It's quiet and runs cool with instant
auto band change. I just plug everything into the Icom computer interface
and set the switches for "Icom".

Yes, I'd like a little more power, but I wanted the 6-meter capability which
the 2.5Kfx doesn't have.
No matter how you look at, it the price of even the mid range SS amps with
auto tuner is approaching that of an Alpha tube amp.

Hi gang,

I am considering buying a solid state amp with automatic band switching
mainly for remote use. I have so far identified the SLA Expert 1K and Tokyo
