An old toothbrush or stiff brush to loosen the dirt and vacuum it up. 
Clean glassware with 99.9% Isoprophyl alcohol CAREFULLY as to not remove 
the lettering.  Keep from touching the clean glass with fingers or you 
will anneal your fingerprints into the glass when the envelope heats.

You can also use a mild cleaner like Simple Green on really tough crud. 
  Be sure to use plenty of water soaked rags to wipe the residue off.

Otherwise, disassemble and wash down or re plate.
