Bill, some radios especially ICOMS "overshoot" and the Alpha's particularly
go off on fault. Not sure what tube the 89 uses, but most of the time the
Alpha tetrode amps are prone to this because you need to back the drive off
from
100 watts, many ICOM radios overshoot for the first dit or syllable and then
go to the desired output. A friend of mine had this problem some time ago
with his ICOM radio, but ICOM said nothing wrong with radio. I would suspect
"overshoot" as your problem. Lou
