..if already talking about this subject, I have another question that'll
pour oil on the fire:
Years ago there were in use Cuproxide rectifiers, which consisted of a small
disk of copper, with an oxide layer built up on one side. When connections
were made to the oxide layer on one side and the bare copper on the other
side, a rectification effect took place, as long as the above voltage was
above a few volts and up.
Did anybody notice effects of this kind (diode effects) with corroded tank
circuits? Or is this only my paranoia?

 From many years ago I recall an article in 'RF Design' where 
someone suggested that oxidation on copper (and other conductors) 
makes less difference than might be expected because the higher 
resistance in the oxide causes the current to flow deeper where 
the conductivity is higher.
