You are probably right Gary...I found the original reference material>> 
QST  July 1967 page 37 and the short reference there was for a 4CX300A, 
Class B Super-cathode-Driven Service...I havn't found any reference as 
to not using the 250B tubes though....I adapted pairs of 4CX-250B/350A 
tubes to this method...Works ok but I wouldn't bother with it these days..
