I like to use metal film in any circuit where component noise contribution
must be at a minimum.
This especially means audio stages as well as synthesizers, PLL's, and
anywhere digital circuitry is used.
Exceptions is in RF stages where even a little inductance may affect
performance or cause instability.
Many years ago I replaced the cheap carbon film in the synthesizer of a
TS-930 with metal film and picked up a solid 6dB improvement.
I dont know what the rice boxes use these days.
