You can also hear them quite well in the mornings and evenings - we have 
a Hood Dairy processing plant about 8 miles from my house. Milk and Ice 
Cream is produced from the raw milk.   When I was in high school i built 
a temperature alarm for the bulk tanks at one of the local farms,    
Rang bells and flashed lights if temp exceeded a setpoint 38 degrees if 
I recall correctly.
