Well, it repels everything else too, including women!

Seems to work very well as a mosquito repellent when applied to the skin
though.

There is a story being passed around from time to time about all the uses
for WD-40 claimed by the "NASA inventor".
One claim is that it is safe as cooking oil spray because it is made of fish
oil. No fish oil, mostly naphtha. It is not safe to ingest this product.

WD-40 is not a lubricant. It was invented as a Water Displacement liquid.
It has some minor lubricating properties, but lacks both the staying power
of real oil and the more complete handling of friction that oil has.

WD-40 is thus an odd product that has, strangely, come to be used,
mistakenly, as an oil. It is virtually useless (compared to oil) in normal
ham radio applications. Strong advertising and the store's stocking of it
along with real oil may explain this factor.

There!
