Are there any 3CW triodes that would even fit? There are a few small
tetrodes but rather hard to find.

The only water tubes Ive worked with are the 3CX100A3 with a plumbing pipe
jacket for use on 1296 and 2304MHz.

The 8072 has possibilities if you want to add a screen and bias supply and
then just use a BeO block and hardware from the MOTO UHF xcvrs or the
various HV supplies that used it as a regulator. NOS ones can be found for
$10-20. The 8560AS are often at hamfests as pulls for next to nothing and
converting their solid anode to the 8072 should be easy with a copper pipe
insert. Its one of the tubes Id like to try if a cheap carcass comes along
since the socket is the same.
