And in most third world countries such as here, second hand hardware is
pretty much a no no. The problem is it is so cheap, even free, that those in
decision making positions can't make enough on the deal, so it gets canned.
What we do see however is that equipment is often kept for much longer, the
upshot being that, like now, having not long ago dumped all tube gear, the
spare parts are now available in such places that sell them. Being able to
go downtown Bangkok and still buy 6146's off the shelf seemed quite a
novelty a couple of years ago. It has started to dry up quite noticeably
though so I guess we are coming to the end of that era.

None in this corner of the Third World.
The people in charge of these machines would have heard somewhere, that the
tubes contained Beryllium. That would immediately class them as hazardous
waste, to be destroyed at great expense to the nation and great regret to
its ham population.
I for one, have never heard of ex MRI tubes ever becoming available,
anywhere in this country. They would show up at hamfests and classified ad
sites if they were.
