No reason a properly designed SMPS would not work perfectly well.  It is
hard to break copper, iron and diodes so for fixed use the big, heavy
linear is fine.  In my recollection, there was a commercial tube amp SMPS
designed and for sale in the back of QST a few years ago.  If I find the
reference, I will reply to this thread with it.
