I started crimping about 30 years ago with CATV RG-11. Now that 50 Ohm connector prices have become reasonable Ive started there with new construction.

That's Phenolic. Hasn't been used in decades AFAIK.

BTW when you see a white insulator in connectors, it is often High Density Polyethylene and not Teflon. It has very poor thermal characteristics and has a hot oil like smell when heated. Put the tip of a small, hot, soldering iron in on Teflon and nothing happens, but on HDPE it quickly leaves a dent. OTOH don't use a really hot iron on Teflon. When it breaks down, it releases a poisonous gas.

Held side by side the Teflon is a Whiter white while the HDPE is slightly darker and very smooth...almost slippery to the touch.

If a connector has Amphenol on it, can I assume it is a good one? I see
several Amphenol connectors on eBay for a pretty good price now and
then.
