## I saw the same video... listen carefully, and you can hear fans screaming
in the
background, with 1.5 kw po on CW mode. I e-mailed em and asked what do they
mean by 100% duty cycle icas. Will it operate at 1.5 kw FM or 1.5 kw
RTTY..or not.
Also, what is the eff, esp when run at reduced po. And what is the IMD, esp
7-9-11-13 etc.
## Answer back was they will be running some tests on all of the above. I
shoulda also asked
how many dba are the fans, from say 3 ft away. The apache labs anan 8000
xcvr, with its pre-distortion tricks, will
improve the typ linears imd by 10 db. Problem is, the dreaded 20-30 msec
delay..which flat out wont work
if trying to monitor your self with headphones on.
## If it ends up being $7-10K..and cant be used for FM or RTTY at full
power, I would pass on it myself.
The dishtronix SS amp has lousy imd with its -30db pep for IMD3, so its off my
list. Im not prepared to spend huge
$$ on an Icas rated amp...that’s only good for cw and ssb at full po..and
reduced po on fm and rtty.
## the diplexer used on the new flex radio.. pwr genius is a winner. The
output is fed to the input of a LP and also
a HP filter. Output of HP filter is fed to a 50 ohm dummy load. 3rd
harmonic of these SS amps is typ only 11 db down,
and thats like 120 w reflected from a 1500w fundamental. Thats a bunch. The
120 w is not absorbed by the LP filter, nor is
it routed to ground, its instead reflected back into the output of the amp.
Increasing heat, reducing eff, and makes for lousy IMD.
Any HP filter only has to be able to handle the PO of the harmonics so its
requirements are not as great as the mating LP filter.
The 50 ohm load for the HP filters can also be external.
## No mention of the hardware IMD correction scheme used in the pwr genius.
At least they are on the right track. Hats
off to em.
