I built a 150MHz amp using a 3cX20000 for an industrial customer. This tube
is rated at 110mhz buts worked fine at 150. Did 24kw out - could have gotten
close to 30 but ran out of drive. So, the 3cx3000 should work at 144.

That would be a real stretch since the maximum frequency rating is 110 MHz
and even if it could be made to work efficiency would be low.

Are there any European TV tubes available at affordable prices?

I have just acquired 2 x  3CX3000A7 and I would like to put one on 2m.



I have a few designs for but before I start I have 2 questions.



The Heater current is 7.5V @ 51A - does anyone use a switch mode PSU?

start. Otherwise I have no idea where to get a custom transformer wound

the Netherlands, which is where I live these days.



I do not want to run in AB2 all the time am I correct to assume that I

just switch in a Zener with a pass transistor to bias to class C? I have
never used a zero bias tube before.



I could use a GM3SEK triode board of course!



I already have a 4.5kV supply that will drop down to 4.2kV on load, if
anyone is using a 3CX3000A7 on VHF I would also like to know how much
gain
to expect. I do not expect the 144MHz performance to differ from that of
110 MHz based on observations with a YC-156.

I think this is an interesting question which deserves a better answer
then the ground loop discussion.

The Tentec is a solid state amplifier and the SB220 is using tubes.

In general tube amps are more lineair then solid state.

I would try to measure them on a spectrum analyzer to see if there is a
different in produced spectrum.
Based on that you might consider an additional filter on your amplifier.

Most likely the cheapest solution is some kind of ferrite around the
wires of the light.

If you are getting stray RF back into the driving transmitter, then this
will be amplified and may cause any number of problems, including the
Uncle Fester light bulb effect.

The Hercules II uses a separate 14V 80A power supply and the
interconnecting DC power cable is hot as hell, in my experience -- having
owned one back in the 90s.
Big difference between that and the self-contained SB-230.

Many years ago in the 1970`s I ran 4-1000A amplifiers on the Low Bands.I
have a neighbor who has fluorescent lamps on his front porch and my SSB
modulation would make the lamps talk..Literally...And flash...I had very
good grounding and still had issues...Nowadays I run YC-156A amps and no
problems of any kind...Very clean tube when set-Up and run properly.
Ground
Loop is also a common problem for several Hams,follow advice from
Engineering people and solve your issues easily...Hello

The 500+ page Motorola R56 Grounding and bonding for Communications
manual is available for free download from Motorola On Line, or perhaps
other places on line.
The 2005 manual is the old one. The 2016 version is the current one.
It's (the 2016 version) is quite a bit larger that the 2005 version.
