Tim Hulick, that's the W9 whose name I was trying to remember (still
can't recall his call, though). He started with an article in QST IIRC
around the early '90s that grew into a two- or three-part early or
mid-90s QEX full-details article on the design of his switching power
supply. I felt the loss keenly when he passed, as we corresponded
extensively and he was always very helpful and kind. His stories of his
exploding FETs and IGBTs were something to read 8-).

Yes, i remember the 2017 design. The earlier one, the 8877 amp with Watts
Unlimited power supply, is likely not available anymore since Tim Hulick is SK.

I thought there was.a design on QEX at one time. But maybe it was
QST?
There are some consumer microwaves that use AC/DC converters in
switchmode.
We have commercial 10 kW Glassman switchers at work that put out
1500 VDC at 6 Amps but they are not cheap. They power screen grid on
TH628L RF tube.
