I once used a K8UR four square for 80m (vertical inverted V) with the
top at about 110 ft and it did work ... it was directional.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to compare it to a standard vertical four
square.

I meant to add that I experimented with 4 sloping dipoles off an 89 foot

tower and never could make the array work.  This was for 80m dipoles and
I 
tried many variations, including using the shortened dipoles with
loading 
coils.  Just could not get the proper separation.
