I thought I would take a moment and shamelessly plug a book written
one of my college chums.

The Internet Companion; A Beginner's Guide to Global Networking
Tracy LaQuey
ISBN 0-201-62224-6
Addison Wesley
$10.95

And from the back cover:

The Internet Companion is your guide to the intricacies and unique
culture of the Internet. In clear, nontechnical language, this
book introduces you to the worldwide community on the Internet,
teaching you how to tap into university research databases, online
archives, and vast social networks of up-to-date information.

This book gives a lot of good general info regarding what the Internet
is all about, plus specific information about email lists (see Chapter
3, "Communicating with People") and interacting with others via the
electronic medium. Joe Bob Marconi says check it out.

Book critic N6TR picked up a copy, so maybe he can give us a review.
