1993 California QSO Party -- AB6EQ Multi-Multi from Santa Cruz County

       CW SSB
80m 114 125
40m 146 116
20m 179 276
15m 90 330
10m 9 29
     ---- ----
      538 + 876 = 1414 QSO's
      * 3    * 2
     ---- ----
    (1614 + 1752 = 3366 QSO points) * 56 mults = 188,496.
Note: numbers are before removal of about 16 dupes.

Rigs: TS-850 with 1500-W amp; TS-930 with 500-W amp.
Ants: 3-el tribander, R-7 vertical, 40m dipole, 80m inverted-V.
Ops: Ken/AB6EQ, Gilly/KD6NOS, Garry/NI6T, John/K2MM

Missed Idaho (disappointing but not too surprising) and Hawaii (sure didn't
expect that!). Nice working Jay/VY1JA who put Yuk/NWT on for the contest
despite having his beam blown down by 85-MPH winds. Seems when VE8 calls,
you can hear him even when his beam is laying on the ground! Also copied
Rick/K7GM's peanut-whistle all the way from NC on 75m SSB and 20m CW.

Inter-station interference was milder than expected, though still not able
to run CW and SSB on the same band (didn't expect to). Biggest headache was
CT. In CQP multi-multi, CT tries to serialize all stations' QSO numbers.
Problem: station 1 gives NR 101 and waits for received exchange; station 2
then hits <CR> thereby taking NR 101. When station 1 hits <CR>, it goes in
the log as NR 102, requiring op to call back the worked station and correct
the sent QSO number -- if the op spots it, that is! Luckily (!) RFI was
causing network-checksum errors, so it made sense to disable the monster's
higher-brain functions (RS-232). Sorry, Hal! Life got simple after that,
quite making up for the inconvenience of extra dupes when the same band/mode
was worked from different stations/computers. Sure hope duplicate QSO NR's
are OK by the rules for multi-multi's.

First CQP for me; sure was a blast! Great tune-up for SS. 73. --John/K2MM
