2 characters in the cw exam. Muffed the hard copy, but comprehended the
text 100%. It was then on to college and I had enough on my hands with

was terminated, in 1978 or 1979, I believe.
Maybe someone can correct me on this, but wasn't the first "opening" for
pick-yer-own 1x2's in 1975, and then only to those who were extras and
licensed at least 20 years?? Then, after a year, they opened it up to
any extra??

I asked Ken Wolff to add the option of a half space and
weighting to the canned CW exchanges in CT to set off and
add punch to the difficult trailing E

I use the CMOS II keyer and put in the minimum extra space either
side of the B in AA5BT. I occasionally get picked out as "AA4?"
but I think it helps. WB9EEE never sends his call with the correct
spacing among the Es, it would be too confusing.

If they want to be thoughtful about it, the FCC might
consider strengthening the incentive licensing structure,
and limit the vanity call privilege to advanced and extras.
Soon the number of "Codeless Techs" will represent the
majority of all calls held. Unless incentive licensing is
kept strong, we - contesters and other users of the CW mode
- will be ruled by the illiterate majority.
... a rather chilling thought and the best reason I can
imagine for taking a low-Tech in for a weekend of contest
exposure!
By the way, I'll be at 9A1A or 9A1CRT in Zagreb for the next
three months. CU for WW160 and both ARRL weekends.

Equipment: IC-765/TL-922A to 2-5ele yagis independently rotatable
at 70' and 110'.
Varying propagation modes with sudden Es openings. Worked
about 900 Q's on Saturday with very strong signals from the east
coast. Had to really dig for multipliers as the only areas with decent
signal levels were eastern half of US and Central/South America. Band
was open to Africa but not much activity noted. (C91J up to S9+10).
Europe finally showed on Sunday with weak openings first on backscatter
towards Africa, then some direct propagation in the middle of the afternoon.
Missed most W7 states with no direct propagation observed to this
area the entire contest. Only HI, VK and ZL worked and heard in the Pacific.
Lots of local MN activity. W3LPL, W5WMU, NU4Y and a few others were heard
during most hours of the contest. CU next year!

What do YOU do in the circumstance of two (or more :-)) audible running
stations on the same (or nearly the same) frequency? Work one or more
if you need them? Avoid them so as to not cause QRM?

I'll always treasure the time in CQWW or ARRL when UH8EA was on 10 cw
and I needed that zone or country, and some HA was zero-beat, both of
them calling CQ and working people. I had to wait a few minutes until
they were in phase and sent QRZ? together. I sent my call, and back
came "AA5BT 599-whatever" in synchronism, like a stereo signal. So I
sent "tu 599-whatever" and they were both happy. It wasn't a contest
where the exchange included a serial number, and I wasn't planning to
send in a log anyway...
In general, I think two stations on the same freq who can't hear each
other don't take long to realize what is happening. If they are both
pig-headed and try to keep the freq, they both lose a lot of Qs anyway.
