Hi everybody!
That's a very interesting statistic about the 0 points qsos.
I made 1892 QSO in CW WPX
77 Q were 0 points,
from them - 30 were new Prefixes!
(less then 50% of 0 points qsos).
We in EU Russia have not too much prefixes but quite a lot of people
who make the contests just for fun and make dupes (0 poins).
To my mind if the qso was made it must have points because you lost time.
And changing qso point method for CQ WW or WPX Contests will not change
records much because allmost all World Records were made from Unique
Countries (so no 0 points qso).
The best qso point method would be 1-2-3 !!
May be i'm wrong but after talking to the other people in Russia there is
an appinion that this would increase activity from the countries like US or
RUSSIA.

I think Andy is absolutely correct here. I'll bet there are a few out west who
would like to fill their logs with some points instead of hours of DXless 0
pointers. This type of rule change could only enhance the apeal of the contest.
Sure would be neat to see a W6 win a contest again too!

Gentlemen:
I recently came into possession of a good deal of CATV hard line. I
believe it is known as "500" hardline, and is the air-type hardline
meaning,
I think, that it is the aluminum outer jacket stuff that is hung on poles
rather than buried in the ground. Do any other contesters out there have
any experience with using this stuff to feed antennas either at HF or VHF
in a _contest_ station set up. A friend of mine (an engineer with the
Cable TV system here says, he wouldn't run any more than a hundred watts
or two through that stuff at VHF, and certainly no power at HF. I would
think that the stuff you be bullet proof at VHF and OK at HF. There is
larger stuff (major trunk lines, which is referred to as "700" which is
considerably stouter than the 500 and I can get it also, but I am looking
for contest station developers who have experience with "500". Have you
been able to run legal limit with this hardline?? Are there any problems
other than impedance problems which I know how to get around?? My buddy is
an engineer and he says the problem is the aluminum center conductor is
considerably less efficient than copper and that he would worry about
power issues. (TREY, notice I have already used the word "Contest" twice....)
I would appreciate hearing of experience with CATV line from other
contestors (that's three times....)

Many people use CATV hardline. It handles power better at HF than at
higher frequencies, though should be fine for all of them. W8ZD or some
call like that makes impedance transformers for something like $25/pair
that bring it down to 50 ohms at each end. If you can live with that
minor inconvenience, it'll probably work much better than RG-213, RG-8,
