G'day All! There follows a number of claimed scores from Canadian
participants in the CQ WW DX CW, ARRL SS SSB abd ARRL 160m contest. If
you know of any other Canadian claimed scores from these contests, please
send me a message with the details. I write a monthly column on HF Contests
in "The Canadian Amateur", the journal of the Radio Amateurs of Canada, and
I would like to include as many Canadian scores in a write-up planned for
Febrary issue. My deadline is appraoching fast. I'd appreciate whatever
help you can provide.

In the same vein as KI4HN's report...here are some signal strength
reports from a station who wanted to play but couldn't be heard.

These are actual S-meter readings from my FT-757GX. Antenna was
an Alpha Delta DX-CC only up about 20 ft. My QTH is on the MS
Gulf Coast.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals for Loudness go to:
1. AA5BL at 25 over S9, easily blowing away rest of field
2. NS0B at 15 over S9, nudging out AB4RU
3. AB4RU at 15 over S9

S9+10: AD5Q, K4SB
S9+05: W9RE, K0LIR, NJ8M, WB9Z, N0TT, NM5M
S9: N4BP, NC0P, N6SS, K5LG, W0EJ, N4AR, AA8U, WZ3Q, NW6N, N5NMX, K4PI
S8: NY4N, K6LL, WD9INF, N4UL, AA5B, KB4GID, AB4CA, K9BGL, NI8G, K3ZO,
       N6DX, W2CRS/0, WT9Q, NK7U, WA5Y, N9DX, N4YOS, AA4NC, W0SD, KB8TI,
       K8MR, N4VV, KB4FAI, N0KSV
S7: KE9I, K8AQM, WB9CIF, W8KTQ, AI7B, W0HW, N8II, KC3MR, XE1AVM, K5NA,
       W6GO, WA2SRQ, KC7BNH, N3BNA, N0AXL, KI7W, KF8HR, KO4EW, VE3KP, K0JPL
S6: W9WI, N3AM, AD4TJ, K4BAM, KE2PF, NN3Q, K8FC, WB1GQR, K9UWA, K1JKS,
       KG8EF, NN9K/0, K9KU, W8UVZ, KC8P
(Noise bursts peaked about S5, so below this things are less precise)
S4-5: N4ROA, K3ONW, W2UP, AA3B, W4YE, K1ZM, N0DH/7, W3UM, K6XO/7, KA6BIM,
       WD0T, KI4DC, N8NA, W3MM, W4TMR, AG8W
S2-3: WA1LNP, WU3A, W1PH, K1IU, WR3D, WA6FGV, KB0ZQ

Also here are some readings taken 0400-0430 Saturday. Signals during
this period were pretty consistently one S-unit lower than Sunday,
so interpolate accordingly...

S9+05: N5AN
S9: K4VX, N4ZZ, N4KG
S8: KB5UL, K0EJ
S7: VE3EJ, WA6RKE, W4MYA, K7OX
S6: WA2EKW, NO0Y, WA6KUI, W8FN
S4-5: K8GVK, KY2J, WB4RDV, N4IR, K3WW, AA6KX, XE2DV, K2WI, W3BGN
S2-3: K7SV, N6RZ, W2TZ

There you go. As usual for this area, 1's and 2's are very tough even
compared to 6's and 7's though the 6/7's are further away. Dunno why.

Ok, hope that helps. CU on 10. Got the DX-CC up to a whole
30-35 feet in some taller trees. Look out world! *cough*

k> get ready for a potentially much bigger screw up.
 k>
k> I just got around to reading the announcement for the January VHF
k> Sweepstakes. In the various appeals to those who "have only an FM
k> transceiver", there is no mention of three significant rules
 k> concerning FM:   (1) No use of 146.52 or repeater frequencies;
k> (2) No solicitation of QSOs on repeaters; and the big one, (3) No
 k> repeater QSOs!
 k>
k> The writeup claims that "if you own a hand-held or two, you can
k> of VHF contesting..." . How this could be done without repeater
 k> use is beyond me.

THAT DOES IT!!

The rules for ARRL contests are detailed for a purpose- to make sure everbody
understands exactly is permitted and what is not.

I strongly urge the ARRL to go back to the old system of printing ALL the rules
for contests in QST.
