Hi all:

Getting messages wondering what DX Alert is, so I had better explain.

DX Alert is the name of a product that reads DX Packet spots from a computer
and re-tranmits them in VOICE (ie. like a voice card type transmission).
There are a few different names out there but DX Alert was the name I heard
most. I think DX Talker does this now but I'm not sure.

What happens is when a spot comes over the computer running the voice system
, the system takes the info, and checks to see if the VOICE or REPEATER
frequency is being used, if not, it sends out a VOICE DX ALERT. If the freq
is being used, it holds the info until the repeater carrier drops.

It's nice to be able to HEAR what everyone is working even if you can't be
on yourself. It kind of keeps you connected when you're out and about.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I will wait for a week or so before
I put out the list. So far, i haven't seen the freq's of the ones I use to
hear in Chicago or Cleveland!

If I guest single op in CQWW here in the US, does it have to be a
station of one of my club members to count for the club? Tnx, Bob
