I think that with phone and CW contesting, copying by ear should be a
requirement. But contesting already has it's "robots". RTTY is copied
by a machine, the radio can be tuned by the computer, the rotor can be
moved by the computer, the exchange can be copied, logged, exchange
sent, and QRZ for the next QSO. And nobody can tell weather it is a
robot or not when you work the station. The exchange looks the same,
etc. The only give away of robots on RTTY is that they usually CQ on
one frequency for hours and hours on end, sometimes the whole contest.
These robots don't win contests....yet.
I don't knwo where we draw the line, and even more difficult, HOW do we
draw that line. Experimenters should be allowed to experiment, and
contest, but in their own class? Amateur radio contesting will need to
address this issue sooner or later, maybe we should take care of it
sooner and be prepared.

We have a slow speed net (not exceed 10wpm) on 75m errr 80m. It use to
meet right near the bottom of the old novice freq. spectrum. It was great
there are some ops, extra, adv., and gen., who really help...It was the
first cw net, traffic net, I checked in to. thank you very much to...
KA7KOI, KD7ME, BONNIE, POUPOU, a couple of VE7's and several others I
really can't remember....
The nets are there, and most likly, in every state. Check the ARRL net
directory.

Hi Everyone,
In the next year I may have the oppertunity to change qth's and will
be looking to set up a single tower (@70ft) setup for contesting. I have
a 4 element (30ft boom) quad in storage and was wondering if I should
be looking at changing the outermost spreaders to accomodate a 40mtr
quad, or if I should be looking for a 2 element 40mtr yagi. The advantage
of the modified quad is that I can then modify it to handle the warc bands
including 30 mtrs. Since I run in the qrp catagory, that means that my
time is spent in search and pounce. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The best server I found is QRZ. In their main web page they have a
subtitle titled Available 1x2 and 2x1 callsigns that are updated daily.
They are broken up into categories by call district and by 1x2 calls or
2x1 calls. That's how I got my call. Point your browser to
HTTP://WWW.QRZ.COM. Hope this helps some.
