A quick stop by the PO box this morning on the way to work resulted in
the arrival of the April issue of QST.

A possible contester's worst nightmare is in the making - a dedicated
sub-band for SSTV; or worse yet, more SS signals all over the bands. A
SSTV contest may be here in the near future. Check out the latest
Kenwood ad information below.

Front cover photo of a meteor streaking through the stars with an inset
photo of a computer screen with high-speed CW meteor-scatter program. A
related feature article is inside.

Contest related items: Results - 97 ARRL 160 Meter Contest; Rules - 98
IARU HF Championship; The Great Miquelon Kite Caper (97 ARRL 160m Contest
operation from FP); Antenna Ads in ARRL Publications; Build Your Own
Microphone Headset; Review - MFJ-1026 Deluxe Noise Canceling Signal
Enhancer; and Hints & Kinks - rotator cable quick disconnect, and
low-impact antenna support.

Other interesting items: It Seems to Us...(editorial) - The Joy of
Morse; A Low-Cost Broadband Mobile Antenna, 1:1 SWR from 160m to 70cm
[this looks really interesting, just don't forget what month this is :-)
]; Reviews - Dual-Band HT Comparison (VX-1R, AT-600, TH-G71A, & C510A);
and more....

Ads: Full-page ad for Icom's new IC-PCR1000 PC receiver. MFJ has 3 new
power supplies - 25 and 45 amp switching units and a conventional 30 amp
adjustable voltage unit. SGC has a new small HF SSB rig, the SG-2020.
Back issues of QST are now available back to 1930 on CD-ROMs. And on
back cover, the new Kenwood VC-H1 Visual Communicator (a handheld SSTV
transceiver unit that connects to your rig).

The CQ WPX SSB is only 9 days away!

73 and good reading,
Henry Pollock - K4TMC
