Sorry that I have to interupt the ongoing WPX debate, but I thought you
might want to know of some other Contesting news. Stopped by the PO box
this morning to see if there was any USPS mail about the WPX Contest
(like maybe a 96 certificate?) and only found the latest QST and a
fishing magazine and catalog.

Front cover photo of a great circle map centered on the North Pole with
a related article inside about The Explorers Club expedition to the North
Pole with a restored Russian biplane.

Contest related items: Up Front In QST has a photo titled "Contest
Cognoscenti" with KR2Q, N2AA, K2TT, N5KO, N2NT, K1DG, K1AR, N2RM, WM2H,
N2NC, W3ZZ, K2TW, & N5NJ (wonder if they were discussing changes to the
WPX?); An Inexpensive Remote-Base Station Controller Using the Basic
Stamp (operate that mountaintop HF contest station from your 2 meter
mobile/HT); The V-Yagi - A Lightweight Rotatable Antenna for 40 Meters;
Clean Up Your Signals with Band-Pass Filters - Part 1; Contesting - A
Family Affair; Product Review - Kachina 505DSP HF Transceiver; Results -
97 ARRL November Sweepstakes CW, and 97 ARRL International EME
Competition; and 1998 ARRL Field Day Rules (OK all of you WPX
-debaters.....this is a 27 hour event, what say about that!).

Other interesting items: North Pole PACSAT Triumph (cover story); A
Rugged Compact Attenuator (0-95dB); The Cube Tamer (turn those wall cube
power adapters into regulated power supplies); Via The Bureau; Product
Review - Cherokee AH50 6-Meter HT; and more.....

Ads: Cushcraft has a new 6 - 20 Meter vertical, the R6000. Icom has a
new full page ad for the IC746 (HRO's ad indicates that this is A "REAL"
HF RIG).

Only 8 days until the Florida QSO Party!

I now return you back to WPX debating.

73 and good reading,
Henry Pollock - K4TMC
Raleigh, NC
