The Heil elements do not require power and also seem to have less output
than the powered elements that most rigs are designed to use.
I have an IC-706 which is helpless with any microphone and my Omni 6
requires a little higher output than most.
Heil has a new product which is a pre-amplifier, set up for the IC-706.
It has about 8-10 db gain and a little more mid-range boost. I will be
adapting this amplifier for use with my Omni 6 and an HC4. I believe
the cost from Heil is around $50, which is kinda steep, however it is
well made and should be well worth it. I know it takes care of the
problems with the IC-706, and most certainly improve your current
situation with the FT1000MP.
