[CQ-Contest] ROTTEN OPERATING

The "last 2" phenomenon ain't gonna disappear as long as there are nets
that foster it. So deal with it. The problem on SSB, of course, is
that everyone is (more-or-less) on the same frequency, and cannot simply
be ignored. On CW, from time-to-time, guys try it, but CAN be easily
ignored by simply tuning to another part of the pile-up.

I hope my competition tries the "full calls only" announcements on a
regular basis as it's only going to slow them down.

No doubt about it, Nets have contributed greatly to the Rotten Operating
Syndrome. I can often tell when I'm in QSO with a "netter" as in giving
his exchange, he will preface it by telling me "please copy.....". Such
politeness!

An equal contributor to Rotten Operating is PACKET. Simply stated, it
is teaching newcomers "HOW NOT TO OPERATE". Not only do you not need to
learn how to find DX, you don't even need to be able to copy the DX
station's call! What a deal. Unfortunately, often packet spots have
busted calls, resulting is a few more UBNs in the logs.

NETS + PACKET = ROTTEN OPERATING. I have seen the future, and it ain't
pretty.... Maybe I'll take up bird watching.
