Folks,

Please tell me if my signal stinks! I want to be as loud as I can be with a
good clean signal and clear punchy audio.

During SS Phone someone clued me in about my audio not being clean. The
comment was that I was much wider than I should have been for a TS-850. Hey I
have a 2.1KHz filter in line on TX...how wide can I be. I was able to make
some quick adjustments to help, but it prompted me to really look into it
aftet the contest. I found two issues 1) the power out was adjusted for 125W
on keydown 2) RF getting in on the packet audio input I use for my voice keyer.

The 850 runs with 12V finals, so there is not much room to generate a linear
signal above 100W. I went through the steps to adjust that back to 90-100W. I
also added a 0.01uF cap across the aux mic input to squelch the RF there. The
rig, according to the regular chat group on 10m, sounds "the best I have ever
sounded". The folks 2 miles away like the audio. The folks at the groundwave
limits tell me I am as "loud" as I ever was.
