I've always done it this way, but I don't consider one radio to be
S&P and the other run. Either could be either. I feel the
advantage is I can always have my left hand on a radio and always
have my right hand on the computer keyboard. Plus the paddle is
on my right and if I'm tuning a radio with my right hand it makes
it inefficient to grab it to transmit [guilty - I do sometimes
send with the paddle. W4AN tells me to knock that crap off :-) ]
BUT - I have guest operated at numerous QTH's where the SO2R
setup was side by side and feel that I did not suffer at all for
having them like that. So go with whatever you feel is the most
efficient for you to use.
BTW, I started using two radios stacked on my left for no other
reason than I didn't know how anyone else did SO2R when I started.
I didn't have room on the little operating table I was using in
1995-97 to put them side-by-side so I just stacked 'em. Having never
seen another SO2R setup prior I didn't realize what I was doing
was different (and is definitely in the minority).
