A follow-up to my own message:
1. Apologies to N6TR for leaving him off the list of contest software
writers at the end of my post - I originally had you first in the list,
Tree, and when I sorted the list alphabetically I screwed up and dropped
your call sign!
2. I should have mentioned the CQ 160 contests as well: they use the
extended list of 14 Canadian call areas, and also separate DC from MD. So,
again leaving out AK and HI (for brevity and because of the added
complication of separate DXCC mults for them in some contests) we have 3
ARRL contests that use the section list, not states/provinces; 3 ARRL
contests as well as CQ 160 that use 48 states plus DC plus 14 VE areas; NCJ
uses 48 states plus 13 provinces; and CQ WW RTTY uses 48 states plus 14 VE
areas. Odds are I've messed up again and got one or more of these wrong, but
my point is that the non-uniformity is not just within ARRL contests, it's
generic, and it's not just Canadian mults, it's US mults too. Add state QSO
parties etc. to the list and you will get even more variety. Anyway, while
some of these differences are not really necessary, they add to the
challenge of preparing for each contest, which in my view is not a bad
thing.
