To keep it legal in Sweden you must identify yourself for
every QSO, as far as I know it´s like this in most countries.
Is it legal in the US not to identify for every QSO?

I wish I had a nickel for every PY or LU I've some across, usually on
the high bands, with nobody calling them, and their only ID is "QRZ?"
Sometimes it's "QRZ CONTEST?", but again no call.
As Martin points out, there are times when *not* identifying is
beneficial to pileup control for the DX station. THIS IS OK.
The number one rule for any contester who is trying to run stations is
to play to your audience. If nobody is calling you, you'd better give
your callsign in any transmission intended to solicit contacts,
otherwise there is nobody on frequency who knows who you are. If too
many are callsign, skip IDing, send faster, or whatever. Do whatever is
necessary to maximize rate, because working people fast is the best
pileup control tool.

I'm confused , why all the angst about non ID..
I ID after every qso over 95% of the time.
If I don't ID I don't want anyone who doesn't already know who I am to
call!
If I you cannot wait for the next ID move on I apparently don't want to
work you!
I get many "call?" and "?" occurring IMMEDIATELY after I have ID'ed,
please explain why this happens!
When I S&P I apply these rules.no ID after three QSO's I move on..pile
up too large, I move on...three or four calls and not even VK? I move on
(unless they are a desperate mult at the end of a contest)..there are
always more fish in the sea.
Have you worked all the available mults in the world before worrying
about the rare one that ID's every half hour? No! Move on!
