Rich,

Work out the math for the resistance needed, the work out how many of what wattage in series/parallel is needed. Then mount them on a good insulator like glass epoxy PCB without the copper, or such, I think we used a pice of formica. Clean out a 5 gallon pail very thoroughly and fill with distilled water. Actually, you won't need to meet the full wattage rating using this method. We used this at work for some very beefy supplies to set the current limits on about 15 years ago and it worked great. The resistor array still exists and is configured so as to be able to change the series and parallel combinations, and we still use it for all kinds of loads, (not RF, thugh) ;^)

Maybe just on the edge of being on topic...

I just repaired (I think) a 50 amp astron rack supply. I intend on using
it to power two hf rigs (SO2R) and accessories. However, I wish to load it up
to about 30 amps to check ripple and regulation without sacrificing my
station if something is wrong.

Any ideas on what I could use to load it up for a test?

Tnx,
Rich, N8UX

PS - Yes, I know I'm sacrificing redundancy. But I need to trade it
for desk space! -hi.
