I second Jim's remarks and wish to add my own observations.
Al certainly is a great operator. At times he would get frustrated with the
idiots who call out of turn or would keep calling when he asks for a
specific station, or would want to start a ragchew when he had a run going.
I remember quite well one dummy who asked him about his equipment then
wanted Al to send him information on it by email. In the meantime Al was
losing contest time and maybe a 100 people standing by for a contact were
groaning and wishing this idiot would go away.
When the DX is running a pileup, regardless if it is during a contest or
just giving out contacts, and he is answering calls, giving a report, then
QRZ for the next contact, just make your contact and let him get on with his
contacts. If he wants to ragchew he will initiate it, not you. Let's not
let these DX stations get frustrated with our poor operating that they feel
the need to take a break from ham radio.
