If you check KA1LMR's spots from ARRL SSB and the
New Hampshire QSO Party in February, you find that the
following stations supposedly spotted him -
ALL of these calls are NOT active - as in, the calls
are not issued by the FCC!
K3TUI
N4EHU
K2JTL
K6LFT
K5HDY
K4IDE
WA3HYT
K1ITF
N1DET
K1HDI
K5HSI
K0AHI
K4LYT
K6LKU
and L7SNU, which I doubt is a real call as well.
Some self-spotters aren't smart enough to use real calls, so
they rap things out on the keyboard real quick. Sometimes
you can uncover them by looking at the 3-letter suffixes
and their location on the keyboard. HYT, HDY, LYT, TUI
are just some of the many that you find.
It is getting easier to find the self-spotter thanks to K1TTT.
The hard part is catching the guy who submits his log as
single-op - but actually has the spots running on his
computer screen during the contest.
As for the people who ask to be spotted - write their calls
down, put it in your 3830 and send it to the contest sponsor.
Maybe the contest rules need to specifically say that you
are not allowed to ask people to spot you on the cluster,
that it is ground for being DQ'd....not put in another category.
