On what seemed like superfluous information to me, when I was working the
Makrothen, I had the same idea only to find out after
asking the reason for the additional information was that the reason for it was
many people were doing multiple contests
simultaneously so that was the reason they gave for the additional request for
information.

Not sure how illegal that is but that's what they said in response to my
question.

IMHO:
Now as far as a contest not being necessary - lets face it.

That is all relative to the purpose of the contest in relation to the needs and
wants of the people involved.

Many contests I don't get involved in because I am not interested in that mode
or something like that. Those contests are not useful
to me, but they are useful to the people who do get involved in them.

I think it is great that contesting is growing like it is and is drawing more
interest due to the diversity.

As far as the LOTW contest I think it is a good idea because it is a way in
order to get all or many of the LOTW users together in
one spot since the QSLing is quite different than the traditional post card
type.

I for one was excited about it because I expected I would see many others
involved, only to find out this was the first one.

So I guess the Marketing on this one was lame and therefore not many new about
it.

Anyway that's my 1/2 cents worth :0)
