The thing that concerns me is that there may be ways to innocently operate a
contest and appear to be using packet. I have my doubts that someone can write
software to look at a log and tell if I was using Packet or not, and here's why.

Think of geography as a filter. I'm never going to hear as many DX stations as
the guys South of me. And the DX I do hear is going to be the loudest people on
the band too. As the loudest stations, they're the ones who will be spotted the
most often. The "geography filter" means I will be mainly working the guys who
are loudest and spotted most often. Therefore the possibility that I work a
given station after he has recently been spotted would be higher than operators
elsewhere. There isn't much I can do about this as I have no control over when
a particular spot occurs.

Like others have described, I'll use the band map feature in my contest
software as a scratch pad to keep track of multipliers and other stations I
haven't worked yet. If I jump from my run frequency over to one of the stations
in my band map and then back again, AND someone just spotted the guy, how is a
piece of software going to know I'm NOT using Packet?
