That was my experience too, when I ran CQWW RTTY last fall using K0D.

I feel the RTTY mode was even more susceptible to repeats because even 
during normal conditions, letters sometimes get "knocked out" on the receive 
string.

European operators seemed to have the most trouble "accepting" my callsign. 
A few even insisted in adding a missing letter on my behalf! I don't know 
whether it was a propagation thing or that they are not as familiar with the 
option of 1x1 callsigns in the US.

BTW, who's K5K??? Obviously it's not well publicized enough!  Hi!

If I want to be a serious contender in a contest, I wouldn't use a 1x1 
callsign.
