There is an electrolytic capacitor om a pc board just behind the front panel
which causes the display tor go away and is a common problem. A ham friend
recently repaired his 850 with the bad cap and took some excellent photos.
If anyone wants me to forward the photos, let me know.

Also, another common problem is a 50 cent I.C. that can go bad and I think
it
causes certain bands nit to work. Again e-mail me if you need that info
and I will let you know what chip(s) go bad
