This same topic of new categories and being able to do well gets batted
around every year at least once. It also rarely goes anywhere, at least with
the contest sponsors.

Local contest clubs should be providing some of this incentive. What better
way to level the playing field than having all the competetiors within the
175 mile club circle (or less for smaller clubs).

I have several pieces of wallpaper in my shack from CQWW contests back in
the 90's that were issued by my contest club (YCCC) for contributing at
least 250K points to the club score that won the unlimited club category.
Even if we hadn't won the unlimited club competetion, the recognition was
great.

I think that SCCC's WRTC style contest within a contest in this years
upcoming IARU is another example of a great way for a local club to
incentivize activity. I'd love to see more of this kind of thing happening
at the club level.
