Hello Jim and All,

At VK4YN as MOAB Single Radio CQ WW SSB we (VK4FW and VK4NEF) had 550 QSO's
18 Zn and 52 Cty. See breakdown below.

Sat 0040 to 0126 Zone 25
Sat 0230 to 0321 Zone 18, 24, 25, 28 and 30
Sat 0648 to 0837 Zone 14,15,16, 17, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 30
Sat 0911 to 0959 Zone 14, 15, 16, 20 and 21
Sat 2313 to Sun 0012 Zone 03, 04, 05, 19, 24, 25, 27, 30 and 31
Sun 0232 to 0304 Zone 18, 24, 25, 27 and 31
Sun 0546 to 0626 Zone 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 24, 25 and 27
Sun 2322 to 2334 Zone 01, 25 and 31

Only a short opening to Stateside but, a few openings towards Europe, Asia and
Pacific zones.
We believed that the conditions on 10 meters were the best for us in at least 7
years, but were unable to cross the puddle between G and F in Zone 14 or across
the pond VK to ZL in Zone 32 for that matter.

Our thanks to all for the contacts and look forward to next year.

An
Looking at the CQWW SSB 10 meter totals on 3830, I see huge differences

between numbers posted in Europe and those from the USA. For example
DF0HQ
had 676/26/109, vs. 209/14/44 at K3LR.

The 15 meter multiplier numbers were pretty close, with the EU guys
having
more qsos which can be attributed to lots of one pointers within EU,
while
the USA guys would not bother with working each other for zero points.

Was there some sort of very short opening that peaked in the hours the
EU
could have worked people, but petered out before the Western Hemisphere
could take advantage? Multiple hop Es in useful directions? Something
else I'm
 missing?

Inquiring minds want to know.
