Exalted rewarding sense comes from two-way nature of hamradio contact while 
internet is more asynchronous!
There is great deal of dissatisfaction with 20 dB antenna differences. 
While I can't hear USA on 160 m lately in my noisy downtown location, I am 
glad to work ARK easily on 80 m.  However, self-critique is very 
un-American.
Only weekend contests and DX-peditions keep our HF bands busy.  Fortunately 
not much demand for ionosphere medium after cheap wideband optical cables.
